Latest News - Updates
News and other updates about the 2017 Christkindl Market will be added here throughout the year. The following were some of the highlights leading up to our 2016 Market.
Schedule Change - K.J. Reimensyder-Wagner will be performing on Friday, December 15 at 7:00pm at the Herr Memorial Library rather than Saturday morning.
The historic city of German Art and Culture
A presentation on Dresden will be given by Matthew Wagner and Brett Hosterman on Thursday at 5:30 PM, Friday at 3 PM, and 3 PM Saturday at the Lutheran Church Sunday School room. The talk will feature photos and short videos from their trip to Dresden in 2016.
Roving Character - Räuchermann (Smoker Man)
The German Smoker Man or Räuchermann, originated in the Erzgebirge Mountain area of Saxony in Southeastern Germany in the late 1700’s. The carved or turned wooden figures are incense burners. The figures are crafted from two pieces of wood that fit together to form the body. The incense cones are placed inside the upper portion of the figure and the smoke escapes through the mouth. The incense if associated with the Three Wise Men and the gift of Frankincense along with gold and myrrh. The figures have traditionally represented men of ordinary, everyday occupations rather than political or military figures. Look for our wandering Smoking Woodsman at the Market, a live representation of the Räuchermann.
Holiday for Organ
Matthew Wagner, organist and retired Mifflinburg Area School District band director, will give a concert of Christmas organ music on Friday, December 16 at 12pm at the Lutheran Church.
